Press Release: Enevate Unveils New Technical Advisory Board

IRVINE, Calif. — November 30, 2010

Enevate Corporation, a leading developer of advanced rechargeable Li-ion batteries, is pleased to announce it has formed a Technical Advisory Board comprised of a unique combination of battery industry experts and leaders to provide additional strategic oversight and direction for the Company’s R&D efforts and evaluation of its expanding portfolio of Li-Ion battery technologies and applications.

Based in Irvine, California, Enevate is focused on developing next-generation Li-ion batteries for smartphones that deliver significantly higher energy density to enable longer runtimes in less space.  The company has raised over $6M in Series-A funding since 2008, and is now pursuing Series-B financing to fully commercialize the HD-Energy® Technology to volume production.

“We look forward to sharing our expertise with leading scientists in the field of Li-ion,” states Dr. Benjamin Park, Enevate’s Chief Technology Officer and chair of the Technical Advisory Board. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring together this world-class group of battery experts, who will play a critical role in guiding our ongoing technology and product development. Combining their expertise with our team’s outstanding experience will allow us to bring high-performance and cost-effective Li-ion battery solutions to market in the coming years.”

The Technical Advisory Board will advise the company on a wide range of matters related to rechargeable Li-ion battery technologies. The Board will be comprised of the following members:

DR. BENJAMIN PARK, Enevate Chief Technology Officer – Dr. Park co-founded Enevate in 2005 (originally as Carbon Micro Battery) and has authored over 25 technical journal and conference publications. He holds a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

DR. JOHN GOODENOUGH – Dr. Goodenough is known as one of the chief innovators of Li-ion battery technology. He holds the Virginia H. Cockrell Centennial Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. His numerous honors and awards include: Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) Centenary Lecturer (1975) and Solid State Chemistry Prize (1980) and Laureate of the Japan Prize (2001) and Enrico Fermi Award of the Department of Energy (2009). Dr. Goodenough is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Associate of L’Académie des Sciences de l’Institut de France, Academia de Ciencias Exacts, Fisicas y Naturales of Spain, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and Foreign Member of the Royal Society of Great Britain. After graduation from Yale University in Mathematics, Dr. Goodenough served (1942-1948) in World War II as a meteorologist. In 1952, he received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago. He was also a research scientist and Group Leader at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Professor and Head of the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Oxford, England.

Dr. YEVGEN BARSUKOV – Dr. Barsukov manages a battery gauging development group in the battery management systems business unit at Texas Instruments. By applying leading theoretical methods of battery analysis, he is advancing battery fuel-gauging, health and safety technology used in notebooks, mobile-phones, PDAs and other portable devices. Prior to joining TI, Dr. Barsukov’s research was focused on Impedance Spectroscopy based testing and modeling of batteries. He co-authored a book on impedance spectroscopy, multiple patents and journal publications and has presented in numerous international conferences. He earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Kiel Christian-Albrecht University.

WILLIAM SCHANK, Enevate Chief Technical Advisor – Mr. Schank was the former Chairman of the US Advanced Battery Consortium for six years and over forty years of industry experience. During his decades with Ford Motor Company, he held many managerial positions in manufacturing engineering, automation and tooling and scientific research including several international assignments in both Europe and Asia. Mr. Schank was also chief engineer of Ballard Power Systems and Chief Technical Officer of SIM Composites, and has had managerial assignments with several electric and hybrid vehicle programs.

DR. KIM KINOSHITA – Dr. Kinoshita has served for many years at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and SRI International. His research focused on electrochemical technology relevant to batteries and fuel cells, carbon surface chemistry and electrocatalysis. He is the author of numerous technical articles and two books. After his retirement from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Dr. Kinoshita served as a consultant on fuel cells and Li-ion batteries. He is a co-founder and Chief Scientist of EnerVault Corporation. He received his PhD in Electrochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

DR. MARC MADOU – Dr. Madou is one of the founders of Enevate. He is currently a Chancellor’s Professor at the University of California, Irvine, Distinguished Honorary Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India, Honorary Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India, and Visiting Professor at the University of Science and Technology, South Korea. Dr. Madou founded and managed the microsensor program at SRI International, was Vice Chairman and Founder of Teknekron Sensor Development Corporation, Visiting Miller Professor at UC Berkeley, Vice President of Advanced Technology at Nanogen, and is an associate at the NASA Ames Research Center. He received his PhD in Semiconductor Electrochemistry from the Rijksuniversiteit in Ghent, Belgium.
